Finnish Market Court has sided with Iron Sky Universe in the case where 5 ex-employees of the visual effects company, which produced the visual effects for the film Iron Sky (2012), tried to claim copyrights to certain elements in the movie. In the statement, Finnish Market Court stated “The Market Court confirms that [the plaintiffs] have no copyright to the film(s) Iron Sky or Iron Sky The Coming Race or to any material that they have made for those movies.”.
In the court’s opinion the nature of the plaintiff’s work did not award copyrights to them, apart from a single spaceship (Japanese ship), in which case the court recognised the copyrights to have been been legally transferred to the production company.
The Market Court compels the plaintiffs to pay the legal fees of Blind Spot Pictures Oy and Iron Sky Universe Oy.
As the case has now been through the court, we hope this issue is put to rest, and the plaintiff stops harassing us with further lawsuits, which harm our work and which have been one of the reasons our upcoming film Iron Sky The Coming Race has been delayed.
Iron Sky The Coming Race will be completed this year. Details of the release will be announced soon.
