A Fan Premiere in Helsinki will kickstart the Scandinavian release by SF Studios. The International releases of the film will take place following the Fan Premiere in Berlin. “Now that we finally have a solid date for the World Premiere, all the other dates will fall into place”, says producer Tero Kaukomaa. “With the help of our fans Iron Sky The Coming Race will be a world-wide event.”
The road hasn’t been easy for this over $20 Million Finnish-German-Belgian co-production as it has taken nearly five years to produce. Shot in Belgium in the fall of 2015, the challenges began when the extensive visual effect work started. The demanding visual world of this film and the high quality requirements of the Film-Making team led to delays in the schedule which eventually led to the financial challenges. The first attempt at a new financing solution was thwarted due to a frivolous lawsuit regarding the first film, which was resolved in Iron Sky Universe’s favor by the Market Court in Helsinki in May 2018.
”We didn’t sit on our hands while waiting for the next round of financing to come into place” says director Timo Vuorensola. “We showed the incomplete edits of the film to our fans and key partners and were able to collect invaluable feedback. We realized an additional scene was needed which we were able to go and shoot. While it’s been a bummer that the release plans had been delayed, it’s allowed us to come out with a better film.”
The new main funding parties are 120db Films and a group of Finnish investors. The Producers of the film are Peter DeMaegd and Tom Hameeuw from Potemkino, Oliver Damian from 27 Films Production and Tero Kaukomaa from Iron Sky Universe. Myriad Pictures is selling the film world-wide with the rights having already been sold to several territories including the Nordic countries, Germany, France, UK, China, India and Japan.
The first film, ‘Iron Sky’, told the story of Moon Nazis returning to Earth with a fleet of spaceships and was released in 2012 over 60 countries. The sequel, Iron Sky The Coming Race, continues the story 20 years later, and takes the heroes into the Center of the Earth where they encounter an army of reptilians and their dinosaur army.
‘Iron Sky The Coming Race’ is directed by Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky), starring Lara Rossi (Crossing Lines), Vladimir Burlakov (Deutschland 83), Kit Dale (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion), with Udo Kier (Blade, Armageddon) and Tom Green (Road Trip, Charlie´s Angels). The production budget is over $20 million and Oscar-winner Pixomondo (Game of Thrones, Hugo) is providing Dinosaurs from the Hollow Earth as well as other visual effects.
